El Monte Women's Club's Annual Scholarship Dinner

Tonight I attended the annual Scholarship Dinner presented by the El Monte Women's Club. I went to support the Women' Club mission of supporting our students. The event was held at the Grace T. Black Auditorium in El Monte. It was a well orchestrated event and I networked with some of the Club members to let them know about the Crystal C. Chavez Foundation. The Foundation needs all the community exposure it can get! There were also representatives from the high schools, El Monte City Council and the El Monte Union High School District (EMUHSD). Superintendent of the EMUHSD, Kathy Furnald, was presented a certificate of achievement on behalf of the EM Women's Club, which was presented to her by the Mistress of Ceremonies and Committe Chairperson: Esthela Torres de Siegrist. Superintendent Furnald, who is also a member of the EM Women's Club, has had a 39 year career serving the EMUHSD.

South El Monte High School's new principal, Eddie Zuniga, gave the keynote address for the evening. It was very well articulated and the message was about the importance of giving chances. For example, Mr. Zunigo parlayed the Women's Club scholarship fund as a way of giving a chance to the students in the community to go college when obstacles, lack of resources and role models, and financial barriers deter their desire and progress.

The event was catered by El Gordito Restaurant (located on Valley Blvd. across McDonald's), so please go support the restaurant and stop in for their famous gorditas! There were also door prizes, opportunity tickets and a chance to win your table centerpiece.

I'm confident that a great time was had by all in attendance and I am glad that the Women's Club was successful in raising more scholarship funds. All of us at the Crystal C. Chavez Foundation would like to applaud the El Monte Women's Club for a job well done in helping students in the EMUHSD pursue their higher education goals.

And just to note that the C.C.C. Foundation plans to have a scholarship dinner in the fall...so stay tuned!
