Gibson Mariposa Park Mosaic Art Project

Today I attended an event at Shirpser School in El Monte put on by Mujeres de la Tierra. The Mujeres organization is a 501c3 organization, and their mission is the following:

To support women and families interested in becoming active participants and decision makers in environmental issues impacting their neighborhoods in the Southern California area

To create a network of trained community leaders to lead, speak and act with a collective and influential voice.

The C.C.C. Foundation looks forward to working with the organization and possibly build a partnership to further serve our schools and children in the community. More information on Mujeres can be found at: www.mujeresdelatierra.org.

There were parents and children present at the school who helped create mosiac and painted tiles for Gibson Mariposa Park. According to Mrs. Veroncia Dolleschel, Deputy City Manager of Community Services (who spoke at the event), construction of Gibson Mariposa Park will begin this year after many years of planning delays. IThe event was a lot of fun and I was happy to support this project to benefit the students in the city. I created a red and blue butterfly using ceramic tile. I plan to post pictures soon. All the art work created will be used in the construction of Gibson Mariposa Park.
